Job description :
The advertiser is seeking an experienced patent prosecution attorney to be located in Singapore. This is a new position, created in response to an expanding volume of work in Asia-Pacific.
Your primary responsibility will be to ensure ongoing development of a robust patent portfolio for the Life Sciences and Chemical Analysis and businesses with related technology, and includes:
- Writing and prosecuting patent applications in the chemical arts and which may also involve other art areas (e.g. biochemical, software, mechanical, physics);
- Managing outside counsel in their writing and prosecuting of patent applications;
- Client training on IP matters;
- Counselling clients on protecting IP; and
- Assisting clients in their maintaining/developing processes which capture product related IP as well as guide the development of a strategic IP portfolio.
More generally, responsibilities include providing legal services and counsel to the advertiser entities, managers and employees to resolve or prevent problems or disputes and to protect the advertiser assets, technology and design freedom; representing the advertiser before government agencies and in negotiations; coordinating legal matters handled by outside counsel; drafting transaction documents and license agreements; handling trademark, copyright, trade secret and other intellectual property matters at least at an initial level; drafting legal opinions and analyses of patents; providing leadership and mentoring; and solving complex, high impact legal problems.

Qualifications :
Qualifications:
You will need to have an LL.B or JD degree or equivalent, and an undergraduate degree preferably in chemistry or biochemistry and possibly an advanced degree in one of the foregoing areas. You'll also bring at least five years practical experience relevant to patent practice. You will also have personally written at least fifty patent applications, and have the ability to write/review patent applications in the chemical or biochemical related arts but which may also involve other art areas (e.g. mechanical, optical, software, physics) You’ll be admitted to practice as a patent agent before a national patent office, preferably the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. You'll be proficient in written and spoken English. Preferably you'll be admitted to practice law in the United States.
